As a service, and candidly, as a way to promote myself, I offer free initial consultations.  I am more than willing to meet with a person facing a family law issue and offer my best legal advice. If they choose to hire me following the consultation, that’s great. I hope that I am able to help them. If they decide not to hire me, so be it.

Sometimes people bring divorce forms to the consultation that they have found online.  As it turns out, all they really want is my assistance in completing the forms. They just don’t understand how they should be answering the questions and they want me to do it for them.

This I cannot do. I did not create the forms. They are not a substitute for legal advice. By simply completing the forms, you may be under the impression that you are protecting yourself. If you accurately answered the questions on the forms, what could go wrong, right?

Understand that every situation is unique. You cannot begin to account for every scenario and fact pattern in a one-size- fits-all form. That’s why we create our own divorce documents after meeting with you and gathering your information. We tailor the documents to your situation.

So, don’t be frustrated if I’m not willing to go through your divorce forms with you.  That’s not what I do. A divorce case is about much more than completing some forms. It’s not that simple. I don’t want you thinking that I endorse the forms or agree that you are handling things the way that you ought to be handling them. Instead, ask me your questions and tell me your concerns. That’s what we really should be talking about.
